He is skilled in operations and cost management, having worked within major utility companies for the past 30 years. In 2003 Mat graduated from Manchester Business School with a Post Graduate Degree in Utilities Management. Mat has leadership qualities and an approachable attitude.
Utilities Direct Ltd are a WIRS-accredited self-lay organisation (SLO). The Water Industry Registration Scheme (WIRS) are recognised by all water companies and Water UK.
Under WIRS, Lloyd's Register carry out technical assessments of the UDL service provision, enabling us to be accredited for contestable works associated with installing water infrastructure.

Following the pre-start meeting, return of signed legal agreement and payment of relevant charges, UDL submit the notification to start mains lay to the incumbent water company.Off-site mains laying installation
UDL liaise with the water company, local authority and relevant bodies to project manage every scheme and keep our client fully informed on status.
UDL complete main laying to the required specification, provide regular updates on status and provide as-laid drawings and test certificates to the water company.
UDL also manage the source of water connection with the water company to meet service connection requirements.
UDL submit notification to connect services in accordance with the water company's self-lay arrangements. The water company or UDL arrange inspection of the service pipes to ensure they comply with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations. The process is coordinated by our dedicated office manager and team.Service connection installation
UDL make service connections in line with client call-off/requirements and provide full details of each connection, including the postal address and meter details (if fitted) to the water company.
